We are currently working on the following topics during reading: - introduction of Buddy Study spelling and phonics study - immersion study in poetry - winter assessment cycle for BAS and 200 grade 2 sight words -continuation of work board - 50 minutes of independent reading time to practice reading strategies taught during reader's workshop including: waking up the brain, fixing the fuzziness, summarizing, monitoring reading stamina, and setting page goals - guided reading of non-fiction texts at students' current reading levels- - splitting words into syllables - reading words with vowel teams (ae, ee, ea, ee, etc.) and welded sounds (am, an, ing, ang, ink, etc.) -Reading biographies of agents of change (J.K. Rowling, Dr. Seuss) as a whole class and working on responses to reading both orally and in writing -analyzing plots in fiction texts -describing how characters change over the course of a fiction text -evidence and claim -responding to reading through writing in our reader's notebooks
